Family residence permit in Turkey

Family residence permit in Turkey

Turkish citizens or residents of any type of residence have the right to grant family residence permit in Turkey to both the partner (husband or wife), non-adult foreign children, or children of the non-adult partner (husband or wife). In the event that the host resident has more than one wife, family residency is organized for one wife only, and family residency can be granted to all his children from other marriages. In the event of a request to grant family residency to children under the age of 18, the consent of the mother or father residing abroad is mandatory. Family residency gives children under the age of 18 the right to undergraduate education until they reach the age of eighteen, at which time they must apply for a study residency.

Steps to apply for family residency in Turkey

Extract all the required documents and prepare them before proceeding to the next step (except for the application form and the fee payment receipt)
Fill out the application form via the Immigration Department’s website in the “first time” section
The site will book an interview appointment at the earliest date, and the place of the interview, date and time will appear on the page (keep this information, it is very important)
Print the application (the site will save the application as an electronic file in PDF format) You can print this file
Gather all the required documents together
Ensure that the documents are complete and that the form is signed by the applicant
Gather all documents into one folder to present them together in the interview (a separate workbook for each family member)
At the interview, you can request an interpreter for free
After accepting the documents from the responsible employee, you will be required to pay the fees at the treasury office (within the same building). When you pay the amount, you will get a receipt from the treasury employee. Return this receipt to the first employee and he will give you a document proving the submission of requests and making your status legal until the residency cards are issued.

Make sure to submit the application before your visa expires
The passport (or travel document) must be valid for more than 6 months
All the previous steps are followed and a separate workbook is prepared for each family member. Each family member will have his own interview appointment
The interview date issued by the Immigration Department is the applicant’s personal appointment and the date of the interview is very important
Minor applicant is accompanied by parents or legal guardian
Payment of fees is exclusively in cash and in the local currency (bank transfers and credit cards are not accepted), so make sure to bring enough cash to pay the application fee, and if the applicants are a family, payment will be for each application separately.
Ensure that the proof of application document is stamped by the Immigration Department before you leave
The residence card is issued within 30 to 60 days from the date of submitting the application and it is valid for one, two or three years (as mentioned in the application)
If the host’s passport (or travel document) is valid for less than the required period, the residency validity for all family members is the host’s passport validity minus 60 days
In the event that the documents are not complete, or in the event that the Immigration Department requests additional documents, the host and the applicant will be notified by SMS and given a 30-day period to submit the additional documents.

Very important cases of mandatory transfer from family residence to short-term residence

In the event of divorce, if the partner (husband or wife) of the host has resided under a family residency for at least three years (if it is proven before the court that the partner has been subjected to violence within the family, then in this case the three-year family residency requirement will not be met)
In the event of the death of the host who supports the family, and the rest of the family was residing under a family residency related to him
Individuals residing on a family residency for at least three years and over the age of 18

In these cases, the resident with a family residence must submit an application to move to a short-term residence
